Department of Land Management Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest  

The Trempealeau County Department of Land Management held the Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest on January 13th, 2021 at the Courthouse, in Whitehall, WI.  The Speaking Contest was sponsored by the Trempealeau County Environment and Land Use Committee.  There are three age categories for the speaking contest, Elementary (Grades 5-6), Junior (Grades 7-9), and Senior (Grades 10-12). One speech was entered in the Elementary Division this year by Caydie Thompson from Ettrick Elementary School. The Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest aims to promote the conservation of natural resources and the protection or enhancement of environmental quality. Emphasis is placed on the subject as it relates to Trempealeau County and Wisconsin. The speech has to be between 3-5 minutes in length for the Elementary Division. Caydie’s speech was judged on content, delivery and style. 

Serving as judges were: George Brandt, Trempealeau County Environment and Land Use Committee Chair, Tim Zeglin, Trempealeau County Board Supervisor and Retired High School English Teacher and Forensics Coach, and Virg Gamroth, Trempealeau County Department of Land Management Service Specialist.

Caydie will move on to the Western Area Speaking Contest to be held in Viroqua.

UPDATE: Caydie also won 1st place in the Western Area Speaking Contest and will move on to the State Contest. Congratulations Caydie!!
