Service-Connected Disabilities

The process to apply for a service-connected disability (we assist free of charge.)

What to bring to your scheduled appointment:

  • Copies of all discharge paperwork (DD214/215, NGB22, etc)
  • Service treatment records if you have them
  • Any medical evidence related to your illness or injury (like doctor’s reports, X-rays, and medical test results)
  • A legal form of identification
  • Account and routing numbers for deposits (VA will automatically back pay and direct deposit montly if awarded disability)

What evidence is needed for the VA to rule in my favor?

  • A current physical or mental disability (damage to your body or mind that makes you less able—or totally unable—to do everyday tasks, including meaningful work), and
  • An event, injury, or illness that happened while you were serving in the military to cause this disability (Veterans Affairs, 2020)
