Addition To Your Existing Residence

Are You Planning on Building an Addition to Your Existing Residence?To assist you in acquiring permits to build an addition to your home the following checklist has been developed. If you can answer "Yes" to the following questions you have the necessary county permits required to begin construction of your home addition:

Do you have a copy of your registered deed?

A registered deed is required to be submitted to the Zoning Department before your permits will be issued. The registered deed is the document that shows ownership of the property.

Have you submitted your zoning and building permits to the Zoning Department?

zoning and building permit must be submitted to the Trempealeau County Zoning Department for approval prior to any construction or earth moving. No construction or earth moving may take place until you have received an approved zoning and building permit.

Have you contacted your Municipality regarding your construction project?

A signature from the Municipal Official is required on county building permit prior to the permit being submitted to the Zoning Department. Be sure to ask your Municipal Official if any local permits are required.

Have you completed your Erosion Control Plan?

A completed Erosion Control Plan must be submitted to the Zoning Department and approved prior to any construction or earth moving. If you need assistance with completing your application you can contact the Trempealeau County Land Conservation Department .

Have you paid your permit fees?

Applications will not be processed unless the application fees accompany them. There are no fees for an erosion control plan. Please make checks payable to the Trempealeau County Zoning Department.

Have you received your building and zoning permits from the Trempealeau County Zoning Department?

No construction or earth moving may take place until you have received an approved zoning and building permit. By ordinance the Trempealeau County Zoning Department has 30 days to review most permit applications from the date they are received. However the Zoning Department makes every effort to review and issue permits permit applications within 5 working days. You will be mailed your permits, which authorize construction and earth moving to begin. Do not start construction or earth moving until you have received your permits.
