Process ServiceIt is the responsibility of the Sheriff's Office to serve or execute according to law, all processes, writs, precepts, and orders issued or made by lawful authority according to Wisconsin State Statute § 59.27(4). 
Foreclosure / Sheriff SalesSheriff Sales are normally conducted on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. at the front entrance of the Trempealeau County Courthouse: 18600 Hobson St, Whitehall, WI, 54773

Successful bidders are typically required to have 10% of their bid in cash, money order or certified check at the time of sale made payable to the "Clerk of Court." The balance is due at the time of confirmation. The successful bidder is also responsible for all legal liens, encumbrances and unpaid real estate taxes.

All properties are sold "as is" and are not available for viewing.

The bank, lending institution or their attorney will put in the first bid. Anyone else can then bid on the property. The property goes to the highest bidder.

The Sheriff's Department does not have any specific information regarding the condition of the property being sold. Persons interested in obtaining information about a property are encouraged to contact the attorney or lender who is foreclosing on the property.

TimesPapers for service will be accepted at the Sheriff's Office Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Excluding Holidays. Only papers for service within Trempealeau County will be accepted.

FeesThe Sheriff's Office shall charge for the service of Civil Process, legal notices and other actions where prohibited by law. There are certain exceptions, including but not limited to:

  • An indigent person is an exception. The indigent person must have a waiver of fees from the court of jurisdiction.
  • Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO's) and Injunctions may be exempt from fees, depending upon the basis of the court order.

The County Board pursuant to Wisconsin Statute § 814.70 / § 814.70 (1) and County Resolution establishes fees. Fees shall be paid at the time the papers are accepted for service. Effective August 1, 2009 fees are as follows:

Writs of Assistance,  Restitution & Replevin                         $75.00 (includes mileage and one hour of deputy time. Additional deputy time billed at hourly rate)
